Cotton fabrics from South Africa in traditional and contemporary designs for quilting, patchwork, dressmaking & home furnishing
South Africa produces an amazing variety of cotton fabrics. For the first time, a full range of traditional and contemporary styles are available at attractive prices from SA Fabrics, based in the UK.
You can browse the fabrics by category by clicking on the pictures below or by using the menu on the left.
You will find ranges of medium and light weight, high quality, 100% cotton fabrics that bring the design, vibrancy and colours of Africa into your patchwork quilting and home sewing creations.
Seen on the right are examples of the 'African Story', 'African Sunset', 'Eyemveli' and 'Eyabantu' collections, which are available by length or in fat quarters.
Complementary soft, medium weight cotton fabric with more muted tones and delicate design are available in the 'Quilters Collection'.

Famous Shweshwe has been worn in one form or other for hundreds of years and the branded fabric has been made exclusively in South Africa since 1982.
It was brought to international attention by Nelson Mandela, who is often seen wearing a Shweshwe shirt. 
The fabric has a gentle stiffness which disappears after the first wash, to be replaced by a beautifully soft, easy to manage, fresh cotton. Shweshwe is robust, making it ideal for patchwork, quilting, home garment sewing and soft furnishings. You can read more about the history of Shweshwe here ... 
And then there are the panels. Wonderful African scenes, animals and traditional objects in placemat size panels that are available to you by the panel.
